walking in the pearl district; amidst the renewal of lofts & warehouses & the creation of new slender urban parks & the new city regulations; time is everywhere. it is simultaneously morning & afternoon.
it is polished gray before sunset & it rains optimism & everyone expects it.

on morrison street, before the bridge that bridges downtown, is the masonic temple & the drama theatre, on the same block, across from one another. the other buildings on that block take on the same stateliness. people walk evenly. dogs bark calmly. in the entrances of apartment houses, are the soft doors.
there is woman who walks down the street, in step to its pitch & a man, who walks backwards, up the street, in hopes of slowing time.
