the train station & the bus station, in the city, westside & downtown, are within sight of each other, as is the main post office facility. dominant is the train station, regal with its towers & its classical american interiors.

           

every day & every hour, this area is overlapped with departures for all points in the city.

the imposing statue, on fifth avenue, is difficult to locate unless you are looking up. it is several stories above street level, crouched on a ledge in front of & incongruous with a post-modern skyscraper. bus patrons waiting, across the street, for numbered buses often look up at the statue, looking down.

if the statue would stand up, it would be over fifty feet tall & it could leave its perch, in order to walk clumsily down fifth avenue.
